The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

Such a good time with great people. I’ll do an actual trip report in the next few days. Some teasers in random order

Mounted on the ice chest. Made the tray removable so I can access the fuel pump with cutting anything. It took WAY longer making it removable.

    Garage Tools

Picked this up for $600 to replace my POS HF drill press. Made my first chips today. It’s awesome! So rigid compared to a drill press. I can’t wait to try some actual milling on it.

The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

I’m bringing eggs/bacon/tortillas in hopes someone will let me mooch their breakfast cooking setup. I’m limited on space and don’t have a small/compact cooking setup.

The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

When am I leaving again?! Kevin and I may try this route depending on how adventurous we are after 3 hours in the trucks.

BFG Relay is 151.715 for those folks without programmed radios. I have 4wd too.

The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

My kid has a RC car and the battery lasts quite a while. I don’t have an inverter, so it’s a one time thing unless someone has 120V power. That plus a mini shovel for building jumps/obstacles could provide some fun entrainment. He also plays baseball and could bring a ball/glove for some catch...

Shock shaft bump stops… yes or no?

I run these in the front of my Tacoma 2.5” bypass shocks. They added a good amount of cushion at the bottom of the stroke. URO Parts 1H0412303B Strut Bump... When I had an XJ I ran these in the front and they worked great. I added a solid rod of HPDE in the center as a hard stop. I also...

No idea where the force is coming from. It’s a completely stock set up, the only thing that I changed is locking the ADD in the “engaged” position. I don’t want to deal with the vacuum switch when I converted from 2WD. Yes the hubs are basically drive flanges, with open front diff. Torque’s...

    Emergency Brake Solution

It holds my Tacoma, as long as it’s adjusted well. I had to make new cable stops for the cable ends at the wheel side, thread the old cable bosses for the new parking brake cable and a small bracket on the frame rail for the brake cables. Putting the shoes together is an absolute pain in the...

    Emergency Brake Solution

The 1st gen Sequoia rear axles is an “8.4” tundra width and uses disc brakes with an internal drum parking/emergency brake setup. The bummer is the housing ends are different from every other 8.4 Toyota. I used a Wilwood universal cable kit to get it set up on my 99 Tacoma. It took some simple...

The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

Me too bro, me too. 18 gallon stock tank, 35’s, 5:29 gears and a well worn 3.4 V6 equates to around 225 miles. I can bring another 5 gallons as a reserve. I have been meaning to add some overland rotopax cans, maybe it’s time.

The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

We are definitely bringing as much firewood as I can jam in the Tacoma. The small 1lb propane or the bigger 15/20 lbs tank? Definitely bringing food to cook. Big fan of a nice warm breakfast before smashing around all day and eating chips and uncrustabales. I also have a million things to...

The Lonely Pinos 250 Prelander run. Bring the kids

The minion and I are in, cleared hot by the family CEO/CFO (the wife) 😂 One caveat though, we can’t leave until Thursday afternoon. Hopefully the Thursday night camp location is not too terribly difficult to get to. I really want to make this happen, but I don’t want to do a 100 miles of...

This is why you need a lathe! I’m a shitty machinist and made this in like 5 min on my tiny lathe.

OE Tundra shafts, OE nuts and “cages”. The hubs are aftermarket, but exact same design as the OE stuff. The outer CV stub shaft is fully threaded and has a hole for the cotter pin. No keyway or any other type of retention.
